Good afternoon!

It is an honor for me to welcome you all today!  Huan ying ni men!

May countdown bago mag sembreak.

Naaalala ko pa: Isang araw, pagpasok sa classroom, nakita kong nakasulat sa pisara: Graduation Day: 65 days to go. Hindi ko ‘to masyadong pinansin. Naisip ko, matagal pa naman ito. Marami pang kailangang gawin.

The graduation countdown is not just about counting the days.  The numbers do not really matter.  Whether it be 65 days to go or 30 days, it is what happened on that 65th day, or that 30th day which matters more. We are not here merely to end four years of high school.  We are here to reminisce the moments that led to our graduation. That is what we celebrate today:  The memories.

Thinking about it, I believe that graduation is not just a proof of one’s academic competence.  Moreover, it is a proof of our continuous growth.  Everything that we have done and experienced throughout high school, the Chem Magic, the Corregidor Trip, the Entrepreneurial Project, the SM immersion, all the tests and papers passed and submitted, crammed or not, were instrumental in forming us to who we are now.  Our classmates and friends who have tested our limits and yet, were there during our lowliest times, our girlfriends who may have made our lives miserable at times but made us feel special in so many ways, our teachers who have terrorized us and at the same time have guided us in every step of the way, and our parents who have nagged us but have continued to be our inspiration, all of them made high school memorable, meaningful and fulfilling.

As one countdown ends today, another one begins.  So guys, we have 1461 days to continue letting our light shine before college graduation.
