It just had to be another comeback.

      J. Em Ang of H3D staged another come-from behind finish, utilizing a tremendous last game to pluck another silver medal in the Masters Event of the 1 st Philippine National Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships. He bowled a total series of 2671 (223 average), finishing behind Kenneth Chua of St. Peter, who bowled a total of 2689 (224 average) and ahead of Ateneo’s Jayson Tubid who finished 3 rd with a total of 2670 (222.5 average).

Facing the top high school bowlers of the country, J. Em once again got of to slow start with a 168. He then rallied with scores of 219, 265, 200, 233, 233, 200, 205. Despite these impressive games, Ang found himself lodged in 4th place, with just four games to go. He then turned on the heat by bowling games 268 and 241 to pull into 3 rd place, literally a few pins away from 1st . Trouble then appeared as the oil patterns broke down, and J. Em struggled with a 181, sending him back down to 5th. While others gave Ang up for lost, members of the Xavier Bowling Team and the Faculty and Staff cheered him on as he bowled a last game of 258. This crucial last game propelled the Xaverian to his 5 th medal of the tournament.

With another great performance, the Xavier Bowling Team became the most honored team of the tournament, winning a total of six medals which included a gold and a bronze in the team event, a silver in the doubles, a gold in the singles and a silver in the masters. With its last tournament of the year a resounding success, the team now buckles down to studying for the final exams.

Next for the bowlers will be the tryouts for next year’s team, which will be held at the E-Lanes Bowling Center at 1:30 p.m. on March 17, 2006.
