Xavier YCLC off to a Retreat
Thompson Tang (H3D), YCLC member

Posted Thursday, 09-Mar-2006 2:38 PM

Members of the Xavier School Youth Christian Life Community (YCLC) took time out from their busy lives and had a retreat last February 18-20, 2006 at the Canossa House of Spirituality in Tagaytay City.

The 28-man contingent left the Xavier grounds at around 5 P.M. of February 18 and reached the retreat house after two hours. The cool breeze and serene atmosphere of the place welcomed the stressed out, yet excited Xaverians.

Brother Joseph Haw, S.J., retreat organizer and YCLC moderator, reminded everyone that “we are not here for fun.” Moreover, he told the YCLCers that the success of the retreat lies in the cooperation and open-mindedness of every member of the club.

Since then, the YCLCers immersed themselves into individual reflection activities such as finding oneself through pictures and keeping quiet while eating. Furthermore, group dynamics such as sharing of experiences and watching the film “Jesus” proved to be worthwhile as well.

Also, the YCLCers listened to the various interesting and touching talks delivered by those who accompanied them in the retreat. Aside from Brother Haw, Ms. Betty Didulo, Mr. Kenneth Gan, and Ms. Reggie Moreno helped make the weekend fruitful and meaningful.

In Brother Haw's words, “These activities are not really new to us because in this retreat, we seek to achieve the deepening and understanding of our faith.”

As the YCLC got back to Xavier in the afternoon of February 20, they did not only have a peaceful weekend, but also gone through an eye-opening experience that they can carry out in their everyday lives.
