XAVERIAN'S CORNER

JCS: A Reflection

Last Friday, March 3, 2006, was the premier of Stage FX’s Jesus Christ Superstar. As I remember how much fun I had, I cannot forget the other different emotions I felt before, after and while watching the play.

Together with some friends, I went to the Lecture Hall with feelings of excitement and anxiety. Anxiety would not be the feeling of many when going to watch a musical or a play, yet it was my first time to actually watch a musical and I was having some apprehensions as to what it might be like. At first, I felt that it might be like those cheesy musicals I see on television but I was soon proven wrong. The entire play was just astounding. The music and the acting were just so well choreographed and directed that I could not help but feel captured by the scenes. Once the actors burst into song, my feeling of anxiety was instantly driven away. I knew that for the rest of the show, I would be enjoying myself.

After my apprehensions were dispersed, I really enjoyed the play but in different levels. First and for most, there was joy. The songs of the play were so entertaining that I could not help but smile especially when King Herod stepped on stage. Christopher Yu of High 4A’s scene was just so funny and the audience clapped and laughed at the end. Aside from the mirth that I encountered, I also felt some sort

of understanding for the play, in particular, the parts wherein Jesus was overwhelmed by different problems aside from His crucifixion and other trials. I never considered this before as part of the life but the play opened up my eyes by showing it in a modern and entertaining setting.

After the play, I saw that many of the audience had faces of content and smiles. The play was truly excellent and with the fact that half the proceeds will go to charity, my Friday night was just perfect. Thank you Stage FX for making this experience worthwhile.
