To top-off the fourth quarter English lesson, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the English Department selected sophomore students to stage and compete in the Romeo and Juliet Elocution Contest.

Last Wednesday, March 8, 2006 , sweet words and expression of love filled the High School Multi-Purpose Hall as sophomore students represented their class in an elocution 0contest prepared by the English Department.

Representatives from each section were chosen based on their performances in their English Oral Test. After which, selected representatives were told to draw lots in order to determine the order of performance.

Emerging victorious among 8 contestants were Jose Timothy Chua (H2A) and Francis Duenas (H2H), tied for first place. As what the English Department Chairperson Mrs. Thess Nebres-Ladrido said, the judges had a hard time in choosing the champion because “both were equally good.” Meanwhile, Jake Yu (H2D) and Wesley Que (H2G) placed second and third, respectively.

During the intermission, several pieces of love songs were played to create a romantic atmosphere. Khamphus , composed of Aldo Mayoralgo, Ricky Mamonluk, Paolo Segovia and Rafael Camus sang “All That I’ve Got,” while Maverick Lim, Peterson Poon and Nico Ibaviosa of Served Chilled crooned “Hands Down.” The Duo of Albert Ong and Aldo Mayoralgo performed “Only One.”

For this event, the English Department invited Xavier’s Miss Ana Katrina Velilla of the Preparatory Department to play the role of Juliet.

Meanwhile, Hart Ang (H2A), Carlo Roman (H2B) and Maverick Lim (H2C) hosted the event.

Judging the contest were Mrs Thess Nebres-Ladrido, and English teachers, Mr. James Nicolay, and Mr. Christian Bumatayo.
