Reach for the Stars

The Prep Culminating Activity 2005-2006
Jaymee Ng, Prep 4 Class Adviser

The day was met with great anticipation. The excitement in the air was palpable, as the Prep boys arrived in their colorful costumes, ready to show their teachers, parents and guests, the talents they have honed throughout the year. This is their chance to shine as they reach for the stars.

The Prep Culminating Program, aptly entitled Reach for the Stars, showcased the different talents of the Prep boys. Held last March 15, 2006, this final event of the school year served to recall all the wonderful experiences of the boys in Prep, sending them off to Grade 1 with a bang! The Lecture Hall was filled to the brim with parents, teachers and guests, who eagerly awaited each performance.

The program formally began with some opening remarks from the school director, Fr. Johnny Go, S.J. The presentations began with an opening prayer performed by the first group of boys, singing the song Hallelujah. This lively praise song showed the boys’ gratitude to God for the wonderful year that they have had, and the amazing gifts that He continues to shower upon them everyday. Following this lively number was Peter Pan, a musical play which showcased the dancing and acting abilities of the second group of boys. Everyone had a good time as they followed the adventures of Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, Tinker Bell, and the rest of the gang. Of course the program would not be complete without a Filipino song number. Singing and dancing to the tune Posible by Rivermaya, the third group of boys did not only express their pride in being Filipinos, but also celebrated the belief that anything is possible. Next up was the calisthenics number, Bare Necessities, from the movie Jungle Book. Applause and laughter met this performance by the fourth group of boys as they moved to the music with the aid of glamorous canes, maracas, and colorful ribbons. To celebrate the wonder of youth, the next performance was a dance number done to the tune of the Chinese song, Childhood. The fifth group of boys looked cool in their shades and wrist bands, as they showed their cool moves to the enjoyment of everyone in the audience. Last but not the least, the sixth group of boys presented an exciting dance number to the tune of Ain’t No Mountain (High Enough). It was a stellar performance by the boys who looked proud in their polos and neck ties, looking like the young men that they are about to become.

A special message from the Grade School Principal, Mrs. Ditas Dairo, served as a heart-warming end to the different presentations. The only thing left was for the boys to sing together one last time. Quietly, each class entered the stage and solemnly took their places. With voices clear and strong, they sang their closing song, Go the Distance (from the movie Hercules). This performance was closely followed by the singing of the Xavier school song. Proudly, they stood together for the last time as Prep boys, and took a final bow. As they raised their heads, they now stood ready to face the new challenges in the years to come. Congratulations, boys! Reach for the stars!
