GS Graduation Speech: Welcome Address

Ladies and Gentlemen, if you roll a little snowball down a snowy hill, what do you think will happen? The most obvious answer is that the little snowball will grow bigger, and bigger, as it moves down the hill. Lance Ong-Siong Co Ting Keh (G7B), Xavier Awardee

GS Graduation Speech: Xavier Pledge

Delivered by Timothy Jan Mari Palao Tan, GS Student Council President

GS Graduation Speech: Xavier Ideals

Mga kamag-aral, ang araw na ito ay simula ng panibagong yugto ng ating buhay. Marahil, marami sa inyo ang tulad kong may halong saya, at kaba ang nararamdaman ngayon. Michael Ignatius Castillo Tan (G7F), Xavier Awardee

GS Graduation Speech: Word of Thanks

We must first thank our school, Xavier School, whose Jesuit education has given us many teachings and opportunities to improve ourselves. One of these activities was our Service Interactions, which made us realize what life is like outside our comfortable homes. Albert Salao Lagman (G7C), Xavier Awardee

HS Graduation Speech: Students’ Response

I believe that everything that we are right now is a result of our Xavier education. Indeed, it is a diverse mix – as if we’re all some sort of amalgamation of different stories, different backgrounds, different lives and ideas.  Casey Lim (H4C), XS ’06 Xavier Awardee and Student Council President

HS Graduation Speech: Countdown

Mahilig ang mga tao sa countdown. May countdown bago mag sembreak. Setyembre pa lang nagsisimula na ang pagbibilang para sa pasko. Tuwing sasapit ang New Year, may malalaking countdown timers na makikita sa iba’t ibang lugar. Timothy Jason Simeon

Last Dish

Last March 18, the seniors finally put a fitting end to their string of social night experiences in Xavier High School. “Chiaroscuro: Light & Dark” was a graduation ball served as a delectable dessert for our seniors – certainly a treat with a tang that will last in their mouths for the rest of their lives. Casey Lim (H4C), Student Council President

A Dream of a Lifetime

Many students have, for a long time, dreamed of marching during their Graduation/Closing Ceremonies. This year the GS Class of 2006 got the chance to fulfill their dreams. They marched down the aisle not knowing that it would be their last time to see their beloved Grade School. John Mikhail Lim (G7D), Hoofprint Staffer

The Legacy of XS Batch 2006

The mix of people makes this batch unique. A plethora of musicians, artists, athletes and geniuses all stewed together into one melting pot, brining forth a distinct zing that can only be Batch 2006. Valedictory Speeches: A View of the Graduating..

Even if not everyone will get to be a valedictorian or a Xavier Awardee, the HS English Department thought that it would be good to give each one the chance to at least experience writing a graduation/valedictory speech and delivering it in front of an audience. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar carries with it a brilliant and highly appropriate theme: the integration of Jesus Christ into rock-star reality. The play is so based on two assumptions. Article and Photos by Lorenzo Mangubat (H3C), Stallion Photographer

JCS: A Reflection

Last Friday, March 3, 2006, was the premier of Stage FX’s Jesus Christ Superstar. As I remember how much fun I had, I cannot forget the other different emotions I felt before, after and while watching the play. Victorino Floro (H1B), Stallion Lietrary Writer

Teachers Are Human, Too

I’m sure all of you have once wondered… Who are teachers? Where did they come from? Do they have friends and have fun? Where do they go after dark? For crying out loud, are they even human???!  Christopher Dee (7G), Hoofprint Features Editor

A Walk in the Dark

The room was dark - dark at least to the eyes of the scattered and blindfolded participants. After being grouped together by their leader’s directives, they screamed in jubilation for having completed yet another task and having earned themselves a flag of achievement in Station 1: Walk in the Dark.  Neilsen Bernardo (H4A), Stallion News Writer

Making a Difference

PanaXea: A Night to Remember

As I write this, I can’t help but look back at all the things that I had gone through for the past five months. It seems like only yesterday when I started talking in front of one of the fourth-year classrooms to thirty-six unfamiliar faces as I tried to look as confident as possible when in reality, I was silently questioning my own capabilities. Howell Yao (H4G), Variety Show Project Head

Freshmen Chinese Week Activities

Reminiscing the Chinese week, I find that the way the High School celebrates it is quite different. Throughout the week, we in the advanced class engaged in many different activities such as essay writing, Chinese poem writing, song practice and the most exciting, acting as judges in our culminating activity while the regular class students had different activities such as setting up shops and engaging in Chinese discussions with the judges. Howell Yao (H4G), Variety Show Project Head

Perspective

Some people complained about last week’s Chinese week, yet for me, one of those few advanced-class students with a different set of requirements and consequently a different perspective of the whole program, things turned out pretty okay; better than my expectations even. Theodore Effan (H3C), Stallion Probe Writer

Into a World of Theatricals

For the six weeks of the Flexible Curriculum, we have been introduced to something far different from our daily lives. With our exposure to different activities for the Third Quarter Flexible Curriculum, we have found something enjoyable albeit, embarrassing. Francis Chan Huan (7B), Hoofprint Literary Writer

Lights! Camera! Action!

The Third Quarter in Grade 7 is memorable for me. We were given an opportunity to have a drama presentation in a “chamber theater” setting. For our preparation, our teachers invited performers from the “Alitaptap Storytellers Club” to demonstrate to us an example of a Chamber Theater presentation. A Day of Rejoicing

It would be no wonder that I would now write about my namesake. For those who need enlightenment, St. Francis Xavier was born in a castle in Navarre, Spain, in the year of 1506, when the Spanish Conquistadors aimed for a destination known as the Philippine Islands, when settlers from China became street peddlers and merchants in Manila. Much is expected of a grade 7 student in Xavier Grade School. Being in the tansition stage from boyhood to adolescence, a grade 7 enocunters bigger responsibilities in all facets of his person. Painting and Making A Difference

As we look at the world around us, it seems that our environment would need a lot of help if we want to preserve it. Bombarded by media images of deforestation, garbage thrown by people wherever they please, we are left wondering “What can we do?” Catherine V. Lauengco, Gr. 5 Counselor

Batman Begins with Brilliance
After an eight-year hiatus from the utterly infamous disaster of Joel Schumacher's Batman and Robin in 1997 with George Clooney in the title role, Warner Brothers has resurrected the Dark Knight in this year's most provocative and most compelling movie, Batman Begin , a graphic novel-esque look at billionaire Bruce Wayne and his origins. SC President's Speech
Good morning.  Every start of the year, I find myself asking:, "I wonder what the school has in store for us?  What are the new guidelines that I have to follow in order to survive school?  How will my teachers be like as the year goes on? Will I learn anything substantial? Will the school allow me to really enjoy the year?" Casey Lim (H4C), Student Council President

I Choose Kiko
Before last school year ended I was given two exciting choices for the summer:  one from my parents and one from my grandfather.   First, my parents suggested sending me to go to Hong Kong for three months, work there at my aunt's company, and earn a hefty salary.  Second, my grandfather offered me a two week vacation to Baden-Baden, Germany, where I would stay with his friend in the most posh area of that city and get a two-week culinary course from the Peninsula chefs.  Both of these offers were extremely enticing, and it was indeed tough to choose. Kingdom of Heaven: An Epic Knight's Tale
Officially kicking-off this year's blockbuster season is director Ridley Scott's ( Gladiator , Black Hawk Down ) sweeping historical epic Kingdom of Heaven that boasts an awesome-looking cast and an incredible production team, yet lacks a trivial amount of character juice that made Gladiator and Braveheart instant movie classics.  Carlo Chong, incoming H3
