Henry Liao ‘72 The Ultimate Experience: Sunken Pleasures The majesty of Ultimate Frisbee is flight. As the disc cuts through the wind, it displays the perfect balance between grace and power. Those long throws that eventually scale the field’s length and land on the palms of a teammate in the endzone are the stuff of Frisbee lore. Mr. Enzo Flojo, HS CMSO Staff Stallions Defeated but Unconquered: Tiong Lian Game 1 On January 13, Saturday, the Tiong Lian basketball competition’s elimination round began. In this competition, 7 Chinese schools are pitted against one another, all aiming to win the championship and prove the superiority of their basketball skills. Mr. John Sy, Chess Team Coach Xavier Begins Title-Retention Bid RICH in history and proud in its tradition, the Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball Association, the longest and most prestigious Chinese-Filipino amateur basketball league in the country today, unwraps its 31st season on Jan. 13 at the Chiang Kai Shek College Gym. Xavier’s Youngest Athletes Shine Brightest! A Xavier varsity team made up of the youngest athletes in school has been the most consistently performing team this current school year. As of this date, the Midgets G/H Football team, composed of Prep and Grade 1 students, is the team that has brought home the most number of championship titles. Mr. Larry De Las Peñas, Athletics Coordinator Xavier Keglers in Historic Win The Xavier Bowling Team ended what had been a rather uneventful 2006 with a bang as the pair of Carl Lim and J. Em Ang took home the bronze medal at the doubles event of the 14th National Youth Championships. Taking on the country’s best bowlers aged 23 and below,the keglers were unfazed by their slow start and came to a roaring finish. Mr. Sharwin Tee (XS '96), Xavier Bowling Team Coach Stallions Upset CSA to Move into Finals Last October, the Xavier High School Volleyball team went up against Colegio de San Agustin (CSA) during the semi-finals of the Inter-Scholastic Sports Association (ISSA) Volleyball League. The Xavier High School Volleyball team was tired and worn out, as they had just won a grueling 4-set game against St. Stephen High School three hours earlier. Xavier Ultimate Rocks the Manila Spirits The Manila Spirits Tournament, held last November 25-26, 2006 at the Ayala Alabang Country Club, stirred in the Xavier Ultimate team emotions of joy, nervousness, and all else --- in quarters, halves, and minutes. We reveled in the pre-game promise of championship and the stunning spirit of the game. After a respectable Pool B finish in the 2006 Habagat League, the Xavier Ultimate (XU) team will try its luck in the upcoming Manila Spirits 2006 at the Alabang Country Club football field on November 25 and 26. The Xavier School women’s faculty team closed the first round of the Faculty and Staff Athletics Association of Private Schools (FASAAPS) women’s volleyball with a victory over Don Bosco Mandaluyong last November 8, 2006. Ms. Aimee Apolinario, XS Volleyball Player Stallions Rule PAYA Juniors Basketball Tournament During the 2005 season of the Philippine Athletic Youth Association (PAYA) Juniors Basketball Tournament, the Xavier School Stallions (led by 2006 UAAP Rookie of the Year Woody Co) went unbeaten all through out the eliminations and semifinals only to falter in the Championship game. Members of the Xavier Bowling Team were brought in for one specific purpose, and they did their jobs well. Team captain J. Em Ang (H4D), Carl Lim (H2F) and Timothy Hung (G7E) joined team 2000s in the 1st Legacy Challenge last Sunday, September 18, 2006, and they more than held their own as they helped the youngest team win the historic title.
