For
All These, Wimpy, I Thank You
Knowing
Wimpy these last ten years has been a blessing. She has taught me a lot
of things. To us, Grade One teachers, and to those who have had the opportunity
to work with her, not only is she a friend, she was also a mentor who
pushed us to our limits. By Len Cunanan

Ariels
of the Spirit
Fr.
Alberto Ampil S.J. once compared the Pineau-Clifford Award to ariels of
the spirit. An ariel is a force or an entity that embodies inspiration
or genius. Fr. Pineau and Fr. Clifford must be the epitome of inspiration
and genius to those whom they have taught and loved because years after
their demise, they are still remembered with reverence. Interview

Special
Convocation/Lecture of Dr. Chris Lowney
Chris Lowney, author of the groundbreaking book Heroic Leadership,
was in Manila for a series of lectures during the week of January 31 to
February 6, 2005. Through the initiative of, and in cooperation with Jesuit
Communication, Xavier School was privileged to have Dr. Lowney as special
guest lecturer last February 2, Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

Symbiosis 2005: A Race to Deliver
December 15, 2004 marked the end of the “Symbiosis Cup 2005 A Race
to Deliver”, the Grade 7 Yearbook Fund Drive. After four months of active
solicitation, the boys, assisted by their parents and guardians, have
managed to generate enough funds to finance their yearbook; to prepare
graduation souvenirs for each graduating class; and to donate to the Fr.
Mena Foundation and the Xavier School Educational Trust Fund Inc. (XSETF).

Kikoville
Revisited
I've
always felt that it would be difficult for me to step into the shoes of
Fr. Santos Mena, Xavier School 's former Treasurer. For one, I am not
a Jesuit. Second, I do not have his wit nor am I a prolific writer.* Third,
Fr. Mena has a great passion for charity work as seen in his drive to
uplift the lives of the Aetas in Kikoville, (Katutubo Village, Porac)
through his Mena Foundation.
Xavier Opposes Binondo Casino
The National Assembly of the Chinese Filipino Apostolate was held
last November 12-13, 2004 at the Lorenzo Mission Institute, San Carlos
Pastoral Complex. Xavier School actively participated in the gathering
and, together with many other Chinese Filipino parishes, schools and organizations
all over the Philippines, supported the following joint statement.
Hello from Fr. Mena
I
wish to thank you first of all for all your prayers for my health. I feel
your prayers all over me. In fact, not a single hour of the day passes
by without me remembering Xavier and all of you, friends and colleagues
for some many years now.
The
Clown of God
Last
August 31, 2004, Fr. Director toured a squat and balding middle aged Jesuit
to the GS LRC. He was Fr. Art Borja S.J., Xavier School's newest School
Chaplain. With a firm handshake and a warm smile that rivals the sunrise,
I had the impression that Fr. Art would soon endear himself to the community.
It's
"Raining Newbies"
I
had my first silent retreat with Fr. Danilo B. Gozar S.J., our new school
chaplain. Among the countless retreats he has given and the myriads of
retreatants that he has encountered, I didn't expect that he would particularly
remember me.

Meet the Newbies in Unit 1
Last
school year, the GS witnessed an exodus of veteran teachers.
In happy tears, they bid goodbye to friends of many seasons. In
hugs and embraces, they promised to visit and to keep in touch by email
or mobile phone. By Mirthell Gantioqui and Techa
