JAR
My friend
Lydia makes pottery as a hobby, and one Christmas she gave me something
that she herself had made. At first I couldn’t tell what it was:
It looked like a bell, but it turned out to be some kind of jar.
BECOMING
CONTEMPLATIVES-IN-ACTION
Let
me tell you a little story. Once upon a time, God was feeling tired.
He was feeling tired because of all the people who were always asking
him for things. So he decided to go on leave to get some rest—just
for three days.

DESIRE,
GENEROSITY, AND FREEDOM
The best thing
about today’s parable is that it comes complete with an explanation, which,
in the longer version, immediately follows the telling of the parable.
Thanks to the explanation our Lord gives to his disciples, the meaning
of the parable is no great mystery. Fr.

Whoever,
Whatever
In today's Gospel,
the Lord repeats one word many times. That word is "whoever." I counted
the number of times it occurs in the passage: Ten times. That's a lot
especially if you realize that if we're going to be very grammatically
strict about it, the entire gospel reading today is really just made up
of five complete sentences. Ten out of five: That's twice in every sentence.
I wonder if we can learn something significant then about the word "whoever."

A
Call to Excellence & Service
The
year 2006 promises to be a year like no other for us Xaverians. On June
6, 2006 , it will be fifty years since Xavier School Kuangchi accepted
its first class of 174 students in a converted warehouse in Echague, Manila
. We've come a long way, and we have many reasons to celebrate!

Our Xavier
Education: The Gift of Roots and Wings
Just
yesterday I caught the tail-end of the funeral of our Holy Father. I
was very moved by it, especially how the funeral culminated with the long
and loud applause from the large crowd that congregated in the Vatican,
roaring its approval and affection for a truly extraordinary Pope.

What's
in Store for Xavier School This SY?
As we know, education for us here in Xavier
School refers not only to the transfer of knowledge from teacher to students,
but also and more importantly, to the total formation of our students.
For this reason, we have always stressed that Xavier's brand of education
has two equally important aspects: Academic development and personal formation.

Sweat and Hardwork, Rain or Shine!
Since the start of the construction of the Sports
Center this summer, I have made it a point to go over there to monitor
its progress. Whenever I make my rounds at the construction site, I am
always struck by the hard -- and dangerous -- work that the construction
workers engage in, rain or shine! Fr.

Welcome
to SY 2004-2005
Welcome to School Year 2004-05! The
usual question that students and parents ask at the beginning of every
school year is: What's in store this year? Fr.

When
Pain is a Prayer
The film "The Passion of the Christ" has
made a tremendous difference this Lenten season. For one, I know it has
shocked many people. By the time it gets to the scourging, moviegoers
can no longer bring themselves to munch on their popcorn. One elderly
lady, after seeing the film, complained to a priest that the movie was
way too violent and bloody for her taste. "My crucifix at home is so white
and so clean and so beautiful," she explained, still unable to recover
from her shock. Fr.
