The Xaverian as Light of the Lord
When I first took a look at the readings for this evening's liturgy, I smiled to myself, thinking of Rudy Ang and the many people who have approached him out of concern for the moral quality of Xavier homecomings. By Fr. Ari Dy, SJ

Like a Thief
Did you notice something strange about today's Gospel? In the very last paragraph, the Lord Jesus says, “Keep awake, therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.” And to illustrate the point that we must all be vigilant, he proceeds to make a comparison: He compares us to the master of a house who, knowing what hour of the night a thief would come, would stay awake and be ready for the burglary, obviously to stop it. By Fr. Johnny Go, SJ

Christ, Our Homeless King

During the semestral break I accepted the invitation of Jesuits to visit our school for the disabled. From the first moment I stepped out of the airport in Phnom Penh , I noticed that every major road and every other street corner displayed the picture of one man. By Fr. Johnny Go, SJ
Many are called, but few are chosen...

During this Mass for the First Xavier China Experience, I am experiencing two kinds of emotions, and both of them start with the letter “E.” it. The first emotion that I feel is “envy.” I envy you, our XCE participants! I think I speak for all your parents when I say that all of us envy you. By Fr. Ari Dy, SJ

A Gracious Host
It is difficult to think that one year has passed since Fr. Cortina's death assaulted us like a thief in the night. The suddenness of his death in faraway Spain makes us want to think that he is still there on vacation, and that he will be back soon. But that is wishful thinking and we all know it. By Fr. Ari Dy, SJ

Does God Have Favorites?
Does God have favorites? The First Reading today proclaims to all: “The Lord is a God of Justice, who knows no favorites!” How can anyone argue with that?  But how do we explain the strange parable that the Lord tells us today? By Fr. Johnny Go, SJ

Intelligence is not a Privilege
Today we are gathered here to celebrate the life of St. Ignatius of  Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, a group of men that is more than four hundred years old, a community to which Fr. Go, myself, and all the Jesuits here, belong. By Fr. Ari Dy, SJ

The Stone-Cutter
Once upon a time there lived a stone-cutter, who went every day to a great rock in the side of a big mountain and cut out slabs to build houses.   He was very good at his job-and actually enjoyed it, and because he was an expert stone-cutter, he had lots of customers.  He was quite happy and contented, for a while. By Fr. Johnny Go, SJ

Turning Buddhist
I remember a story told by a Jesuit priest last year about three men who believed in different gods.  One was a Muslim, a believer of Allah; the other was a follower of Buddha; while the last one was a Catholic insisting, of course, that Christ was the right God.  To settle the matter, the three agreed to jump off the cliff and call on their respective gods to save them.
